Community Programs pertaining to health science careers for students & teachers
HSCTE can neither directly endorse nor fund outside programs, but we strive to provide information related to pursuing post-secondary information and opportunities for all Health Science students in the state of Washington.
This health care program was initiated to encourage, inspire and support students considering nursing or allied health professions, such as pharmacy, radiology or physical therapy. As a participant in the MultiCare Academy for Students in Healthcare (M.A.S.H.) Camp, you'll join medical professionals from various disciplines, those caring for patients and individuals that work in our non-clinical areas. You will learn about: Emergency Departments, Intensive Care Unit (adult and pediatric), Cancer Center, Labor & Delivery, Pediatric Care, Adult Surgical Care areas, Information Systems and Technology (IS&T), Human Potential (HP) and a variety of leadership roles at MultiCare University. You will also participate in hands-on station rotations, mock codes and even visit a local colleges and universities. In short, you will get a firsthand, behind-the-scenes look at the multifaceted world of healthcare.

Fred Hutch's Summer High School Internship Program (SHIP) is an 8-week, full-time paid internship for rising seniors. The program is specifically designed for students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical science. Selected interns attend an orientation day, then begin the internship with two weeks of hands-on training on laboratory safety techniques and skills in the Fred Hutch Training Labs. For the remaining six weeks, interns are paired and immersed in mentored activities in a Fred Hutch research group in Seattle. Interns also participate in research seminars, attend professional development workshops focused on college and careers, and enjoy social activities with their teams and peers. The program culminates with intern presentations to the Fred Hutch community.

At Healthcare Week, students are divided into teams and are responsible for running a safe, ethical, and affordable healthcare clinic. Teams are challenged to answer the question—how will we solve some of the world’s greatest healthcare crises and still keep our clinic fiscally viable to ensure care for those who need it? Each team is assigned a major illness or issue, such as breast cancer, diabetes, or AIDS, and are tasked with the challenge to invent an innovative new preventative method, treatment, or cure.Students learn about the gamut of healthcare careers and healthcare technology. Students visit the nursing skills centers at major universities and practice hands-on learning with modern medical equipment.
